Breaking into tech

Dec 25, 2024

TLDR

If you don't want to read this article you can watch this video (opens in new tab) on getting into tech that I believe is a good representation on a high level of how to break into tech.

Intro

The tech field has many different career paths, including web development, machine learning, cybersecurity, machine learning, etc (opens in new tab), each offering unique opportunities, challenges, and salaries.

Currently my work (opens in new tab) is within web development/machine learning, but the path into tech follows a similar pattern regardless of the field you pursue.

Find an interest

It's super important to pick a field that sparks your interest and passion. I've met many people who have pursed a path just for the money and found that they hated it. You really want to pick a field that you'd want to learn and improve on in your free time and are willing to spend the extra time to improve yourself. If you do find yourself working on the project in your free time then the money will follow you 💯

Create a portfolio

Making a portfolio is a great way to showcase your skills and experience. Using Github (opens in new tab) to post your projects is probably the best way to show others your progress as you build it.

Follow my Github (opens in new tab) to see my portfolio.

Find a job

Sometimes the best opportunities find you from the work you've posted for others to see. If not, you can find them through sites like LinkedIn (opens in new tab), Indeed (opens in new tab), or 𝕏 (opens in new tab) to get you started into tech.

If you have any trouble finding an opportunity reach out to me on 𝕏 (opens in new tab) and I'll try my best to find those in my network to help you out.
